Novo Ministries has been providing weekly and summer programming for elementary-age children living within the Oklahoma City Housing Authority’s four family housing developments in the greater Oklahoma City area since the summer of 2004. The Oklahoma City Housing Authority believes that the programming and mentorship provided by Novo Ministries’ staff and volunteers have greatly impacted the children of their developments.

In December 2009, the Housing Authority asked Novo Ministries to develop and pilot a new initiative to provide daily programming at one of the four family public housing developments. This new initiative was funded through a contract with the Housing Authority. On March 29, 2010 as part of the new “Community Impact Initiative” Novo Ministries began daily programming at the Oak Grove Community Center. In March of 2011, Novo launched a second daily after-school program at Ambassador Courts. Twice weekly programming at Sooner Haven and Will Rogers followed soon after.

Currently, Community Impact Initiative programming includes 3 hours of constructive, guided activities starting immediately after school and throughout the summer in the Community Center of each housing development. Activities and programs include tutoring, activity centers, snacks, classes, theme days, Girl Scouts / Boy Scouts programming, games, mentorship, and guided free time. This initiative has facilitated strong partnerships between the Regional Food Bank, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Oklahoma City Housing Authority, and Novo Ministries. These organizations and the children and families of these communities are excited about these partnerships and the potential for life-change and long-lasting impact.

I have on my desk a wonderful stack of testimonials from these dear children who are future leaders of tomorrow. Every child is a magnificent creation and deserving of mentors who care about their desires and ambitions. Your organization continues to make a difference in their lives and we thank you for your dedication to making a difference for them.
